Nvidia Halts H200 AI Chip Production for China: Regulatory Hurdles Loom
Nvidia has suspended production of its H200 AI chips destined for the Chinese market, citing regulatory uncertainties. The company redirected Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company's capacity toward next-generation Vera Rubin hardware instead. While NVDA stock showed marginal gains at press time, the pause in AI chip production introduces bearish risks.
During its latest earnings call, Nvidia disclosed no H200 sales to Chinese customers despite prior indications of approval. CFO Colette Kress emphasized unresolved import permissions: "While small amounts were approved by the US government, we've generated no revenue and remain uncertain about China's import allowances."
Offsetting the setback, IREN Limited's order of 50,000 B300 Nvidia GPUs for hybrid infrastructure deployment could bolster long-term revenue streams. The cloud infrastructure firm's expansion into 100% renewable data centers aligns with growing institutional demand for sustainable computing solutions.
